Hi, I’m Liz Kline. I’m an experienced Product Leader with 10+ years working in web & mobile applications. From concept to execution, I’ve had my hands in all aspects of product development. Utility player, creative doer, product generalist, I’ve been called them all. What marks my work is both an attention to detail and the big picture. Sometimes I see the forest, sometimes I see the trees, but no matter what, I'm in it. Here is a sampling of some recent projects.
LRNG is a movement that closes the opportunity gap and transforms how young people access and experience learning.
I was the Chief Product Officer at Collective Shift/LRNG. From concept to execution, I led the product team and design of an informal learning platform launched in October 2015.
The platform included a youth facing experience and a content authoring tool for community organizations to create content and advertise their local programming.
Designed for youth 13-24, the LRNG landing page is customizable for participating cities.
We chose to build LRNG as a mobile first web app, making it super flexible for the youth we were targeting.
GlassLab is a learning company that uses game and assessment principles to improve learning outcomes for youth.
In the 3.5 years I was at GlassLab, I led Product Management and Marketing. During my tenure we launched a digital games platform for publishing original and third party games. We collaborated with world-class scholars and commercial game companies to bring a new approach to educational assessment.
As an individual, I contributed everything from user stories, to market research, to wireframes, to supporting lesson plans for our games. As a manager, I worked with an in-house dev team and a UX/Visual designer to execute this super-fun project.
GlassLab Games is currently live and available here.
Information for educators about the instructional value of the game.
We designed reports that made the learning in our games "visible" to educators.
Writing, writing, and more writing! I do a lot. From company messaging, to product sell sheets, to scripts for product trailers, I'm always down to get my write on.
I also love teaming with designers to figure out the best way to make information grab the reader's attention.
Strategy & script
I have experience with competitive analysis, partnership proposals, product messaging, launch planning, new feature development, market research, and user testing. I am also a firm believer in a highly visual product roadmap to rally the troops and build a shared product vision.
Initial presentation to LinkedIn on LRNG integration.
Uncovering market opportunity for digital games in the eductional landscape.
Sitemaps, wireframes, content strategy, content writing, managing web developers, managing designers, and just enough WordPress experience to be dangerous.
Crazy deadline on this project, but we were all so happy with the result. We turned around the GlassLab company website in just under 3 weeks.
I did a lot. Everything from the initial IA, Site Map, Low-Fi wireframes, and ALL site copy.
We also included an awesome developer site as well.
Building trust and consistent delivery is a healthy recipe for working with customers, clients, and partners. While at Collective Shift/LRNG I had the privilege of working on the 100K Opportunities Initiative in Chicago.
The 100,000 Opportunities Initiative is a coalition of leading U.S.-based companies committed to training and hiring 100,000 Americans between the ages of 16 and 24 who are out of school and not working. Chicago was part of the first cohort of participating cities.
Working closely with staff from One Summer Chicago, a partner of the 100K Initiative, I managed the development of the landing page and provided instructional design and development for a "Playlist" helping teens get their first job.
It's not just about what you do; it's also about how you do it. In this section you'll see some examples of the ways in which I build culture, camaraderie, and trust.
You'll even see my favorite custom bagel emoji that I introduced to our team Slack. We used it to light-heartedly remind each other of the importance of work life/balance. It's time to eat, People!
Celebrated a big release by making cookies in the shape of one of the GlassLab Games platform icons.
We made a habit of using .gifs as part of our weekly retrospectives.
It's my jam. And I think it helps make for more fun meetings.
Like any PM, I love learning about and using new tools. I also have a few tried and true processes that I can't live without, like writing out user stories and stack ranking them, drawing super fast mock-ups to get stakeholder buy-in early, and creating lots and lots of diagrams!
It all starts here. I cannot count how many user stories I have written over the years, but suffice it to say it's been a lot!
I love ugly wires because you can get buy-in fast on concepts without obsessing about details. I'm pretty good with lots of tools, but for being super fast I like Balsalmiq.
I am pretty attached to Confluence for making my team's work visible to the rest of the organization.
My favorite tool to make product roadmaps is Roadmunk.
Diagrams are my friends This one was developed in a brainstorming session using Gliffy.
